(Indianapolis, Ind.) - Holladay Construction Group has earned the Award of Excellence, the Presidential Award, and the Douglas S. Trolson Image Award for the Grand Park Events Center from the Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. Indiana/Kentucky Chapter. HCG will be presented with the awards at ABC’s 2016 Merit Shop Construction Awards Gala on Thursday, September 29 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in downtown Indianapolis.
The Award of Excellence is given for quality projects completed in the previous year. HCG earned the award in the large project category. The Presidential Award is given to projects that have a positive impact on the community, and the Grand Park Events Center has already been a boost to the City of Westfied. The Douglas S. Trolson Image Award is given to the member with the most ABC subcontractor on a winning project.
The Grand Park Events Center marked a strategic partnership between the City of Westfield, Indiana, Holladay Properties, and Holladay Construction Group. The 377,000 square foot building is the largest indoor sports arena in North America, housing three regulation fields capable of adapting to many other sports and events, including trade shows, live entertainment, conventions, and special event programming, as well as lockers rooms and retail space.
To facilitate a full range of athletic events, this $26.5mm structure has clear spans reaching 285’ and reaches an interior clear height of 74’ through the use of 5,000,000 pounds of steel. For program adaptability and energy efficiency, the arena is equipped with LED lighting where each individual fixture is monitored and controllable allowing the user the ability to light only areas in play. The indoor environment is maintained with 690 tons of cooling and 5,000,000 BTU’s of heat. This project was delivered successfully ahead of schedule and on budget to the Owner through the Fast Track Design/Build model.
“It is unique and it’s going to turn this incredible park, Grand Park, into a year-round venue,” said John Phair, President & CEO of Holladay Properties. “This turf and this building and its size will accommodate almost any convention type event or exhibition hall. There is nothing like it anywhere in the country.”
The Events Center features 25,000 square feet of elevated pedestrian viewing areas, a 10,000 square foot full-service Johnathon Byrd Restaurant as well as an 8,000 square foot lounge and bar. In addition, the building offers 15,000 square feet of workout and warm up areas, and 30,000 square feet of mixed use office space housing several tenants including the City of Westfield, Indiana Sports Properties, LST Marketing & Indiana Soccer Association.
Construction began on the Grand Park Events Center in May of 2015, not including the near year of planning that came before the project broke ground. The City of Westfield held the Opening Celebration for the Grand Park Events Center Thursday, July 21 – Saturday, July 23, 2016.
